Upvas Idli
Ok, its fasting day for you and everybody around you is enjoying lots of non upvas stuff and making u feel jealous and tempted to break the upvas, no more, its time for u to make them jealous, make them wish, why they didnt have upvas on this day, yummy upvas recipes just for u, enjoy!!!!
Ingredients:
2 cups Varicha Tandul or Bhagar or Samo Seeds
2 cups Sabudana or Pearl Sago or Tapioca(Preferably Small Size)
2 cups Upvas Bhajni(I used K-Pra) or Rajgira Peeth
1 cup Dahi or Curd or Yoghurt
4-5 No. Green Chillies finely chopped or 2 tsp Red Chilli Flakes
2 tsp Jeera or Cumin Seeds
2 tsp Salt
Method:
1. Wash the sabudana and soak it in double quantity of water for about 1 hr, then drain the excess water and keep covered as it is overnight or for 5-6 hrs, in the morning, check if its soft enough or else lightly sprinkle some water on it and cover and keep again for 1-2 hrs,
2. Soak Bhagar for 3-4 hrs in warm water. Discard the excess water later.
3. Grind bhagar in the grinder or mixer using very little curd, add the soaked sabudana to it, add the upvas bhajni, remaining curd if any, salt, jeera whole or coarsely ground and finely chopped green chillies. Mix well and keep aside for 1 hr(Optional).
4. Grease the idli pans or dhokla pans with butter, add the above prepared batter, and steam for 10-15 minutes just like regular idlis. cool for 5 minutes and then remove.
5. Serve with coconut chutney or groundnut chutney. Pour some ghee on top of the idlis before serving, gives a glossy look and better flavor. Consume immedietely.
